Anadolu Hisarı

Anadolu Hisarı, the Anatolian fortress, sometimes called the beautiful fortress, is one of Istanbul's best-known landmarks, standing on the Asian side

of the city, with an enchanting view over the Bosphorus,

and it was built around 700 years ago, which makes it one of the most important sights in Istanbul

and in Turkey as a whole.
The fortress covers 7,000 square metres in total and sits at the narrowest point of the Bosphorus .
Anadolu Hisarı lets visitors take in the design of the fortress from the outside

with its distinctive Ottoman heritage, and you can walk a little way around it

to see the rectangular main building, with a second structure surrounding it

whose sides taper into a conical shape.
Visitors can also get to know a part of Istanbul's history by looking at the stone

the city's fortresses were built from in the Ottoman period, and the architecture that distinguished

the Turks during that era.

The fortress also offers visitors a view over the Bosphorus when standing

opposite Anadolu Hisarı, since the original purpose of building it was to watch for

any foreign invasion that might come up the Bosphorus.
In the evening you can enjoy seeing the fortress lit up in several colours

that make it glow with a captivating light, particularly in winter when ice forms

and the fortress appears dressed in white, like a pearl.
