7 new sea routes in Istanbul

The transport coordination directorate at Istanbul municipality has announced the creation of 7 new sea routes to ease the city's traffic problem .
According to Turkish media reports translated by the Turkey Today website, Istanbul municipality submitted a proposal to the UKOME transport coordination centre to create 7 new sea routes in order to integrate the rail and bus transport systems on both sides of the city. The proposal to increase the share of the sea in transport in Istanbul , a maritime city , was accepted unanimously.

The new routes to be added to sea transport are :
1- Eyüp – Sütlüce – Kasımpaşa – Karaköy – Kabataş – Beşiktaş
2- Kabataş – Kadıköy – Moda – Caddebostan – Bostancı
3- Eyüp – Sütlüce – Fener – Kasımpaşa – Kadıköy
4- Avcılar – Bakırköy – Kadıköy
5- Çengelköy – Kabataş
6- Princes' Islands – Maltepe
7- Bostancı – Avcılar

These routes aim to offer an environmentally friendly, fast and comfortable journey, not to mention easing congestion in the city. With 7 new routes added , sea travel will rise by 17 per cent in the short term
