Tourist destinations in İzmit

İzmit sits on the Sea of Marmara and comes administratively under the Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality, which is centred in the Marmara region,

the region that links the Asian continent to the European one. 

Kandıra lies to the north, Adapazarı to the east and Kartepe to the south,

with the Gulf of İzmit to the south-west and Derince to the west.

The main tourist destinations in İzmit

1- Maşukiye village

Maşukiye village lies close to the famous Lake Sapanca

Maşukiye makes an ideal spot for a holiday in Türkiye, given how close it is to the provinces of Istanbul and Bursa,

and its position makes it quick and safe for visitors to reach, sitting at the point where

the TEM and E5 motorways meet. Among the best things to do in this village is to wander

on foot among the green trees and enjoy the birdsong that blends with the murmur of water running

down from the mountain tops

2- Mount Kartepe

Kartepe, once known as Keltepe, is the second-highest mountain in the Marmara region, standing

1601 m tall. It lies to the south-east of İzmit at the highest point of the

Samanlı mountain range.

Kartepe's terrain is largely rugged, made up of rock that dates back to ancient ages,

its surface is covered in forest, and hazelnut, oak, chestnut and olive trees grow densely on its slopes.

Kartepe stands out as the main centre for organising winter sports and as the leading destination

for skiing enthusiasts in Türkiye, as well as being one of the mountains with the most beautiful views over

the Sea of Marmara.

3- Seka Park

Seka Park, or the park of wonders as it is known in İzmit, stretches over 580 acres and is one of those parks that

holds vast green spaces and a great many trees pleasant to sit beneath, put at

some 6 thousand trees spread across every part of the grounds. Visitors can wander through it and breathe the clean

air among the green surroundings, adorned with the many colours of the flowers and roses spread throughout the park.
