President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has said that “BRICS” is a major platform bringing together the world's emerging economies, stressing the importance of its role in shaping the future of the international economy. He was speaking to journalists aboard his aircraft on the return from the Russian city of Kazan, after attending the “BRICS” summit on Thursday.

The Turkish President stressed the need to recognise that “BRICS” is not merely an economic bloc, but a platform representing promising economic directions in the world. He pointed to Turkey's wish to strengthen its ties with “BRICS”, particularly given its deep, long-standing bilateral relations with the group's member states.

Erdoğan explained that joining international formations of this kind would strengthen Turkey's economic standing and increase its competitiveness. He added: “BRICS and other international platforms and groupings are among the things that make us economically stronger, and we cannot ignore their importance”.

Erdoğan's remarks underline Turkey's approach of building partnerships with emerging economies and drawing on international blocs to support the national economy amid mounting global pressures.
